20 Words of the Year Ideas for Writers

Saturday, December 22, 2018

Choosing a word of the year is a practice I picked up last year to try implementing in my life rather than doing a new year’s resolution. The concept revolves around choosing one word to focus your actions for the year around instead of one goal. In 2018, I chose the word “Progress.”

In 2018, I
  • Got my first full-time job
  • Moved out of my parents’ house
  • Improved dental health by getting Invisalign
  • Let go of things not serving me
  • Continued growing my writing blog
  • Got engaged
  • Traveled to Cedar Key, FL
  • So much more!

Sounds like a lot of progress right? It was wonderful having a word to cling to and center my goals around. This got me thinking...What if writers did this also? Could this help us reach our writing goals? Therefore I compiled a list of 20 words you can use as your own word of the year.

  • Authentic
  • Accountable
  • Believe
  • Begin
  • Challenge
  • Confidence
  • Consistent
  • Commit
  • Create
  • Dream
  • Explore
  • Execute
  • Fearless
  • Improve
  • Inspire
  • Magical
  • Opportunity
  • Simplify
  • Submit
  • Write

For 2019, I’ve chosen the word authentic. In this upcoming year, I want to be more true to myself and my writing. My goal is to find my true style and self in all areas of my life. If it doesn’t align with me being authentic, it has to go.

I hope you find a word to settle your year goals on. Feel free to leave a comment down below or on my social media your word you have chosen to live by for 2019.
