My Word of the Year for 2021

Saturday, January 23, 2021

We have finally almost made it through the first month of 2021! Cue the fireworks and celebration for surviving 2020! If I had known all of the things that would have happened last year, I probably wouldn’t have chosen “bliss” to be my word of the year in 2020. It was a tough year to live by the word bliss, but the more I reflected on my year, I found that there were plenty of nuggets of bliss. These nuggets of bliss meant my word wasn’t a total failure. Before I reveal my word of the year for 2021, let’s review how I lived by “bliss” in 2020.

In 2020,
  • I got married to the love of my life after being together for seven years. If that isn’t bliss, I don’t know what is.
  • I learned what is truly important during a lockdown. This led to some life simplification which increased my bliss.
  • I learned what makes me blissful career-wise and started formulating a plan to get to that point.
  • I started gaming again and found a group of online friends that make me feel blissful.
  • I learned what makes me feel good about my body and how to achieve that.
  • I learned to give myself more grace in trying times.
  • I finished drafting my first manuscript!
2020 was a hard year for not only me, but for everyone. Even though it wasn’t quite “my year” like I thought it would be, I still believe that I lived by the word bliss as much as possible.

For 2021, I’ve decided my word of the year is intuition. The definition of intuition that I am following is “a thing that one knows or considers likely from instinctive feeling rather than conscious reasoning.” When I think of intuition, I think of trusting your instincts and abilities.

I’ve decided for this year, I want to work on trusting myself and knowing that I can do things. I suffer from crippling impostor syndrome and the only way for me to get over that is to trust my abilities. I’m also determined to self-publish my first novel this year. In order to do this, I will need to trust my intuition when making editing, marketing, and design decisions.

I also want to trust my intuition more in my personal life. I always know when it’s time to leave, or move on from a job, etc. However, I don’t trust myself to actually do it. I always second guess everything that I do, instead of know I’m doing the right thing. Long story short, 2021 for me is going to be all about trusting my intuition. I don’t think that is a bad goal to try and achieve. I’m trusting myself in deciding that 2021 is the year to do it.
