Everything You Need to Know About My New Project

Saturday, February 15, 2020

I recently reached over 100 followers on Instagram! Before I made it to 100, I promised a special surprise for when I reached my goal. So here it is! Today, I’m unveiling my current work in process, The Midnight Huntress. In this post, I will be answering all of the questions I believe people would have, but if you have any others, please leave a comment down below.

1.  What is The Midnight Huntress about?

Just want to let you know that is a working title. I haven’t completely settled on it yet, so it’s subject to change. Here’s the blurb I wrote to introduce the plot:

Atalanta is a Captrix, simply known as a witch huntress. Atalanta never wanted to carry on the family tradition of being a Captrix after watching most of her family die at the hands of witch creatures. However, after Atalanta botches her first witch hunt, her mother, who is the best huntress of all the Captrix, is taken by a group of elemental witch creatures who normally don’t work together. Now Atalanta must gain eighteen years’ worth of Captrix knowledge that she has ignored in order to solve the mystery of witch creatures changing social norms and save her mother. But the deeper Atalanta gets into the world of witches, the more complicated things become.

2.  How long have you been working on your novel?

I starting working on The Midnight Huntress during NaNoWriMo 2019. I didn’t completely finish it then, but got around 20,000 words done.

3.  When will your novel be finished?

That’s a good question. I’m a little over halfway done with my first draft. If you know anything about writing, is that the first draft always sucks. So after completing the first draft, I plan on doing my own edits and then hiring an editor to give it a look over. My goal is to have it ready for querying or self-publishing by the end of 2020.

4.  I thought you mainly wrote creative nonfiction. Where did this come from?

Honestly, memoir is one of my favorite genres, but so is fantasy. I love paranormal romance and books about witches, vampires, and werewolves. It’s also mainly what I consume for television. Writing fiction is kind of a happy accident because I decided to do a writing exercise for NaNoWriMo and then came up with a whole book concept.

5.  Are you actually going to finish this novel?

Yes. At this point, announcing it is my way of forcing it to happen, so I don’t have to deal with the embarrassment of telling people about it and then not coming through.

6.  Can you tell us about the main character?

The main character is Atalanta Capp, an eighteen-year-old female who is a Captrix. Captrix are a long line of female witch hunters who have to complete their first witch hunt when they become eighteen. Atalanta refused to do her training after being left alone by her mother most of her childhood and watching other family members die because of being Captrix. In order to save her mother, she has a lot of catching up to do with witch knowledge and a lot of forgiveness to give out.

7.  Can we see some of your inspiration?

Yes, I have a Pinterest board full of pins here.

8.  What makes your witches different?

The witches featured in my novel are more creature-like. They’ve been consumed by their power and transformed. Instead of witches whispering incantations, mine use elements and become what they represent. They’ve lost a lot of their human qualities which is why they are referred to as creatures.

I hope this gives you some insight into what I’ve been working on other than blog posts. I can’t wait to take you all on this journey of writing and publishing my first novel! If you have any questions feel free to leave it in the comments below or DM me on Instagram.
